Inside Voice... for work?
= Outside Voice!

Inside Voice has been a great generative process for individuals: writers and storytellers and “just folks” with an interest in story alike.

AND!

I come from over twenty years of User Experience Research Consulting [“UXR”], as well. And what is UXR, at base?

I contend, it's finding and telling the story of the user of a product or service, of course!

Another thing about being a consultant in a new room, over and over (and over and over), that I hear, over and over?

“How do you get up and present to a room of potentially hostile or bored, definitely over-extended strangers? How do you get them onboard?”

Unsurprisingly, guess my answer: STORY.

What does the user need they aren’t getting so far? Tell us the story of that!

Where did this process break down for you? How did that happen? Walk us through it!

What in your ideal world would [new product or app] do or provide? What does that new world look like? How do people behave there?

Personas? Journey maps? Even just prioritization among tasks?

All of these are flat, disappointing, and most importantly, often ineffectual— without STORY. â€‹

It’s characters, and narrative, and motivation. It’s details in props, and timelines, and challenges.

STORY STORY STORY!

And presenting after all, is storytelling too. â€‹What you and your team do need is a story you are confident in telling, and practice in finding what that means, for YOU.

Let's get together, in person or on Zoom, and work it out!
